Sometimes we want to protect ourselves when we're hurting, and we are afraid to open our hearts even enough to let Him in. We don't want to be disappointed on top of the pain we're experiencing. But He is with us, always present, always ready to provide refuge and strength.

What doth the Lord require of thee? - Coloring Page #18

***Great news! I'm turning my coloring pages into a beautiful coloring book and journal, which will be published and ready to ship just in time for Christmas! If you're interested, you can pre-order now on Kickstarter!***

Happy Sunday! This week's coloring page comes from Micah 6:8 "He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?" Sometimes I think we like to make long lists for ourselves of all the things we think the Lord requires of us - all the things we're supposed to be and do - when really it all boils down to the basics. If we can do these, everything else grows naturally from that. I think it's when we get it backwards, when we try to force all the to-do stuff without grounding ourselves in these basic principles and the 'why' of discipleship that we start to feel overwhelmed and even inauthentic. I'll be putting this one away in my mental file of things to remember when I get feeling that way, so I can take a deep breath and begin again.

God has not given us the spirit of fear -- Coloring Page #17

***Great news! I'm turning my coloring pages into a beautiful coloring book and journal, which will be published and ready to ship just in time for Christmas! If you're interested, you can pre-order now on Kickstarter!***

Happy Sunday! This has always been one of my favorite scriptures -- I turn to it when I feel fearful or weak, and it reminds me that those feelings do NOT come from God. He wants us to feel powerful and full of love. But the part that means the most to me at the moment is the promise of a "sound mind." Mental illness runs rampant in my family, with everything from depression and anxiety to paranoid schizophrenia. I thought that I had dodged the bullet, but this year I have been struggling with intense anxiety that hit from out of nowhere. It has attacked my confidence in myself and in my faith, but Heavenly Father continually pulls me back from the brink and reminds me that those feelings of doubt and uncertainty and fear are not His message to me. If I hold on to Him and let Him pull me out of the spiral, I can feel that confidence of a "sound mind." I am so grateful for His love and grace and the power that comes through Him. And I repeat this scripture as a mantra to myself, to help me remember Him and His love in those moments of darkness. Power, love, and a sound mind are our heritage from God, and He can help us get there.
